There are some beautiful stately homes within reach of the cottage.

Castle Howard

The original Brideshead Revisited was filmed here. Visit the beautiful house, take a boat trip on the lake, take a ‘train’ tour to the fabulous children’s adventure play area or wonder through the nearby Arboretum. A great day out for all the family.

Burton Agnes Hall

A truly magnificent Elizabethan manor house with an extensive collection of artwork. The gardens and woodlands are delightful and there is a wide-ranging calendar of events throughout the year, including the fabulous Jazz Festival.

Sledmere House

A real gem, appealing to all the family. Visit the beautiful house, designed by Sir Christopher Sykes, wonder around the park or explore the Spotty Pig Play Farm.

Harewood House

Featuring in ITV’s ‘Victoria’ and in the forthcoming Downton Abbey film, this is a great venue for a day out. The historic Georgian property nestles within the “Capability” Brown landscape. Visit the huge adventure playground and see the penguins and flamingos in the bird garden.

Riveau Abbey

An impressive ruin of one of England’s most influential Cisterican monestaries, set in the tranquility of the North York Moors.

Helmsley Castle

This well-preserved, medieval castle can be found in the pretty market town of Helmsley, in the North York Moors.

Pickering Castle

A splendid example of a motte-and-bailey 13th Century castle. Discover its variety of uses over the years; from royal hunting lodge to stud farm.
